在巴布亚新几内亚偏远的博萨维山区(MountBosavi)，科学家们发现了自20万年前火山爆发后，一片与世隔绝的生物栖息地。在这片神秘的栖息地上，科学家们找到了一种哺乳动物的新品种：博萨维毛鼠(BosaviWoollyRat)。作为目前世界上体型最大的老鼠之一，它的外貌与普通老鼠差别不大，从头到尾长约87厘米，重逾1.3公斤。这种老鼠有着银灰色的厚皮毛和尖利的牙齿，基本吃素，可在树洞或地底建立巢穴。并且，这种老鼠是“友好”物种，十分“令人难以置信的”温驯。科学家发现它时，它正在啃食一片叶子。科学家感叹地表示：“它从没看到过人类。博萨维火山口真是与世隔绝。”
